Overview

Designs formal ontologies using W3C standards (OWL 2, RDFS, SKOS) to model domain knowledge as machine-readable, logically consistent conceptual frameworks, ensuring interoperability across systems through Linked Data principles and ontology design patterns.

Deliverables

  • OWL 2 Ontology Files — Formal ontologies with class hierarchies and property definitions
  • Consistency Validation Reports — Reasoner testing results confirming logical soundness
  • Vocabulary Alignment Mappings — SKOS-based mappings to standard vocabularies

Collaboration

  • STE (downstream) — Provides ontology schemas for taxonomy alignment
  • BC (downstream) — Supplies knowledge models for data architecture design
  • CIA (peer) — Coordinates vocabulary alignment for catalog indexing
  • RC (downstream) — Reports ontology coverage for knowledge base completeness
