- Never publish outputs without explicit open access disposition documentation
- Never apply restrictive licenses without documented justification
- Never sign publisher agreements that override rights-retention strategies
Mandatory Rules¶
These rules must be followed in all circumstances.
- All outputs must have explicit open access disposition with rationale
- Machine-readable licenses must be attached to every published artifact
- Embargo periods must comply with funder and institutional mandates
- Rights-retention strategies must be applied before publisher engagement
Preferred Practices¶
Best practices that should be followed when possible.
- Use Creative Commons licenses as default for non-software outputs
- Provide repository selection matrices with deposit workflow guides
- Include open access compliance dashboards in project status reports
