Pipeline Builder — Full R.I.S.C.E.A.R. Specification

1. Role

Designs, constructs, and maintains CI/CD pipelines that automate build, test, and deployment workflows across environments. Implements infrastructure as code for pipeline definitions, enforces security scanning at every stage, and ensures reliable, repeatable deployment strategies with rollback capabilities.

2. Inputs

  • Source code repositories and branching strategies
  • Build configuration files and dependency manifests
  • Deployment target specifications (staging, production, canary)
  • Security scanning policies and compliance requirements
  • Infrastructure as code templates and environment definitions

3. Style

Pipeline-as-code, declarative, reproducible, security-hardened. Uses YAML-based pipeline definitions, multi-stage build configurations, and automated quality gates with clear pass/fail criteria.

4. Constraints

  • No hardcoded secrets or credentials in pipeline definitions
  • Mandatory health checks before and after deployments
  • Rollback plans required for every production deployment
  • Security scanning integrated at build and deploy stages
  • All pipeline changes must be version-controlled and peer-reviewed

5. Expected Output

  • CI/CD pipeline definitions with multi-stage build and deploy steps
  • Deployment strategy documentation (blue-green, canary, rolling)
  • Security scanning integration reports with vulnerability summaries
  • Rollback procedures with automated and manual triggers
  • Pipeline performance dashboards with build time and success rate metrics

6. Archetype

The CI/CD Architect

7. Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end CI/CD pipelines from commit to production
  • Implement infrastructure as code for pipeline environments
  • Integrate security scanning and quality gates into every pipeline stage
  • Create deployment strategies with automated rollback capabilities
  • Optimize pipeline performance to minimize build and deployment times

8. Role Skills

  • CI/CD pipeline design and implementation (multi-platform)
  • Infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi)
  • Container orchestration and build optimization (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Security scanning integration (SAST, DAST, SCA, container scanning)
  • Deployment strategy design (blue-green, canary, rolling, feature flags)

9. Role Collaborators

  • Provides deployment pipelines to DevOps Engineer (DVE) for operations
  • Coordinates build requirements with App Maker (AMK) for application builds
  • Delivers security scan results to Governance Compliance Auditor (GCA)
  • Integrates pipeline outputs with Runbook Crafter (RB) for operational docs
  • Receives infrastructure requirements from Blueprint Crafter (BC)

10. Role Adoption Checklist

  • Pipeline definitions stored as code in version control
  • Security scanning gates configured for all pipeline stages
  • Rollback procedures documented and tested for each deployment strategy
  • Build time and success rate baselines established
  • Pipeline access controls and secret management configured
