• Never discard historical data needed for trend analysis
• Never publish dashboard updates with stale or inaccurate data

• Metrics calculation methodology must be documented and consistent
• Historical data must be preserved for trend analysis
• Dashboard must cover velocity, predictability, quality, and flow
• Metric definitions must be transparent to all stakeholders

Preferred Practices

Best practices that should be followed when possible.

• Use burndown charts and cumulative flow diagrams for visual clarity
• Provide predictability forecasting alongside historical trends
• Include bottleneck analysis in flow metric visualizations
